Default Things to do with a ps3?

Besides gaming what else can be done with a standard ps3?

Things I have considered include putting my tv's pc somewhere else and running plex off the ps3 for my movies and series.
Has anyone done this and is it worth the cash for a switch?

Something else I read plenty about and tried a few times was remote play on an android (Specifically an unrooted s4) but I got nowhere with this, all links for the apk's I found were either dead or linked to viruses.

Is there anything you guys did/do with yours besides play games?

It's great as a media player, and it should work well with Plex, I've used it with other DLNA servers.

Also good for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Tunein radio, and lots more streaming services. My wife is using a Daily Burn app (on the xbox, but there's a ps3 app too), which is basically exercise programs that you pick and stream (http://dailyburn.com/).

I would love to add streaming to my mix but I live on a plot and my internet connection is through Vodacom.
I would hate to see my data charges

Currently I only let the ps3 on line to do updates when games won't play or if I want to browse PSN. If I see something I want I take the price of the game + the price of the data x3 to download the game (due to downloads failing or updates) and then decide if it is worth buying the game or not.

Eish, well at least you can use it as a player for a local media server.

And of course it's also a blu-ray player...

Yea, It was also one of the major reasons that I went for a PS3 as opposed to other systems. Internet connection is not a must.

You can use PS3 media server ( serach PMS to find it and dont use the shorten version when you talk to your mates infront of girls gets totally awks ) Ps3 media server streams all teh movies and series to it and what i liekd about it it scaled to the quality of the episode so shitty 480P videos on a HD tv still looked very very good.

Ive watched HD with no issues over wifi .. Takes a R300 investment .. get a Stream wifi module. Those that you plug into pwoer socket that then connects to your house WIFI and then you use Rj45 from that to your Ps3.. sorts most issues out.

It's probably because I was using 801.2 b/g wifi clear across the house so the signal was pretty weak, and it would be slower than n (not sure if ps3 does n though), but I have since run some cat5e through the ceiling, so I don't have to rely on wifi at that end of the house.
