I think holding on to anything "just for in case" constitutes hoarding of sorts. You might dress it up as being a "collector", but you still give into your hoarding tendencies.

I've made the decision to get rid of most of the stuff I'm not actively using, except the stuff I know I'll be able to sell for a pretty penny in the future. It all just collects dust and takes up space for things you really need to store.

Our house is surprisingly lean these days. Few pictures and portraits on the walls, only strategically placed ornaments, baskets or flowers and no loose carpets. After our solar-pump-bursting incident, we decided to not replace most of the things we lost, even getting rid of old clothing, shoes and linen that we haven't used in a year or two.
