Snouted, horned, beaked, Botox lipped - Won't influence the speed at which I run. Might just have to put your friend on speed dial. We have a conservation area across from our place and all my neighbors had some form of snake in their house before - I pray that mine do not get any. Had plenty of scorpions before - that is OK. I will put them back in the field. Snakes are a bit more intimidating to me. One of my neighbors had pet snakes and he got bitten by one - needed to be rushed to hospital and had to get a skin graft for his whole arm. Almost died. I could always go to him for assistance, but he no longer lives there.
Yea I used to keep snakes but semi venomous at most (ok I kept a boom slang when I was 16 but that does not count as I was a teen).
Now the only ones I come into contact with are at friends or when relocating them from my or my neighbors property.
My heart pumps every time.
Being young and ignorant was cool - you were so free. I used to catch snakes in a sheep kraal and all of them were harmless 'tabak rollertjies' according to my wisdom. Even took them to school. They were not super big like your Cobra - like 1/2 a meter tops. They were actually 'Skaap stekers' not sure about the English - they were actually venomous. Use to catch spiders and bugs and hid them under my bed for safety - especially if mom took out the Doom.(Only sometimes tasted them out of curiosity) Oh lol. So interesting that nothing happened to us (ignorant children) Now, I know about stuff like the Black Widow spider and I will just crap myself seeing any big spider.

Some things that never seem to hit the news stands.

A group of students at Tuks have started a group promoting peace across racial lines & religions. They congregate to promote peace by joining hands & singing in Zulu, Afrikaans & English.
The group was started to show that violence is not the answer & their numbers are already more now than the current political violent campus groups.
These kids are the future. They are our hope. Proving that good will always prevail & we are stronger together than divided.
