Maybe it's because I haven't played it yet but I just don't see the excitement in playing a Trainsim... are your only controls speed up and slow down ?
I've got TS2015 and as far as I know it automatically upgraded to TS2016.
It's actually a lot more complicated, it's really a true form of a simulation. It's like the trains version of MS Flight Simulator. One of the biggest things I appreciate it is that in real life, if it takes you X minutes to travel from Y to Z, then it should in theory take you X minutes in game.
Yeah it's an update to the previous versions. They just rename it each year for marketing purposes. Stopped playing because of the dlc's
Yes and no, as BeoTeK states, the realism is the factor here. Its not like playing with toy trains on a big board. The games actually simulate the weight and dynamics of real trains. Each model handles differently.
Same goes for Euro Truck Simulator, it's not merely driving from point A to B, it's the journey. And I have added a lot of MODs to my ETS2 to make it more realistic, such as adding more traffic and traffic types, more freight types etc.
And then you get to Flight Simulators... I was part of the SA Flight Sim community for almost 10 to 11 years. Being a simulator, you have to live yourself into the task you are performing. Do the (Light) planning, learn and follow procedures, obey real world rules in the virtual environment, imagine that you have a plane/train/truck/bus/car full of passengers/cargo that someone would like to receive on the other side. Then game becomes simulation and you get engrossed in it.
