Star Wars: The Old Republic EA's Most Expensive Game Ever

The Piper
zeForce is expensive in this one :D

Eurogamer reports on some EA shop-talk with quotes from chief banker Eric Brown, who describes "Star Wars: The Old Republic" as the "largest ever development project, period, in the history of the company". Sounds like EA is looking at a Spring 2011 release for Star Wars: The Old Republic, but don't mark it on your calendar quite yet as nothing official has been stated.

He said a packaged game usually costs around $30m to make at EA, but "any MMO costs significantly more than that".

When asked by a member of the Wedbush Morgan Securities audience in New York today how the cost compared to World of Warcraft, Brown said Blizzard spent "$100 million, perhaps more" to ship the game in 2004.

"That's lifetime [research and development] to actually ship it and obviously then there's maintenance subsequent to ship and expansion packs," Brown added.

Watch this be a glorified singleplayer game with MMO like aspects. :p

Heh, I don't know, but I will watch this one but not get excited about it really. Guild Wars 2 is looking more exciting like Lydon suggests >_<

Well seeing as how GW2 will also feature, the once off payment method...I think I'll be playing both Kotor and Gw2 :D

I think this will probably be the first and only MMO I invest my money in or if this becomes a FAIL then i'll just invest my money into Lego Universe :)

riiight. lets come and talk shit in the kotor mmo thread, btw the top is Star Wars: The Old Republic EA's Most Expensive Game Ever ;)

for gw2:
+ Post New Thread

for ontop and OP stay :D

We're staying on topic by suggesting that despite it being their most expensive game ever, Guild Wars 2 will still be better ;)

been following this for some time... the story seems quite epic and the cut scenes awesome. as for a MMORPG based on star wars... well i'm not sure if that will work. the gameplay looks quite lame to be honest.. even for a MMORPG.

don't think this is gonna end up being worth their investment TBH... time will tell though

If only SOE weren't so stubborn!

Can you imagine the mass re-subscriptions they'd face if they were to roll back to pre-NGE, or simply keep the current servers running and open up separate pre-NGE servers?

They have no business sense.

Yeah so many people I know would love to go and play it / go back to it pre NGE. But it seems SOE are retards on many fronts...

Exactly...

And even if they come up with the excuse of not being able to reactivate the pre-NGE version of the game, for the love of goodness redevelop it! And modernise/streamline it in the process.

Fools
