Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, free and for PC

Forza 6: Apex is a stripped down, free version of Turn 10 Studios’ Forza Motorsport 6 for Windows 10 users.

It's supposed to be a demonstration of what Windows 10 can do for PC gaming.

Well shit, I was half wrong. A little concerning that it's f2p, lets hope it's not a shitty business model.

It’s probably also only going to be available on the Windows Store, which is somewhat annoying given the current issues and inadequacies the store suffers from.
I suppose I'll have to source this...

    elsewhere.

Should be slightly more difficult, seeing as Windows Store apps typically don't have a traditional executable... But who knows, the sailors of the open seas will probably find a way around it.

I did not know that. How do they work, then?

They use .appx files, which is a proprietary new format created by Microsoft to unify app distribution between desktop, tablet and phone environments. Think of it as an .apk in Android terms.

This is part of the new Universal Windows Platform (UWP) push by Microsoft and, sadly, side-loading .appx files is prohibited in Windows 8/10. So I believe your only source for these new games will be the Windows Store.

Interesting. Are these .appx files built solely using C#, (like apk's and Java) or is it simply dependent on the .Net framework, or whatever MS calls the .Net framework these days?

Not necessarily. It has to be able to run on the Windows Run Time. Can be C++, any of the CLR languages or even JavaScript.
