Final Fnatasy XV
So it seems that Square Enix might have been over ambitious with the marketing/development of Final Fantasy XV and went waayyy over budget.
Even at $30 a copy, they would need to see 5.4 million units more of the shelves before they break even on the (rough)costs of the game.
A rough estimate sees that development costs for Final Fantasy XV will be +- $160 mil.

3.4 million copies of Tomb Raider have been sold in four weeks, publisher Square Enix has revealed, which is not enough to hit the game's sales target.
Fellow Square Enix title Hitman Absolution sold 3.6 million units since its launch in November last year, while Sleeping Dogs sold 1.75 million since last August.
There's no mention of what the company's internal sales expectations were for the trio, just that all three missed their respective marks.
Square Enix expected 14.9 million retail game sales from North America and Europe combined in its six-monthly forecast last September. Considering the fact that Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution and Sleeping Dogs were the only big releases for these regions and accounted for a combined 8.75 million sales worldwide, it's clear that their targets were a good deal higher.
Whether or not they have gone over budget is one thing, But if they get this game right, and its as big a hit as say Final Fantasy 7,8,9 then all will be forgiven...
I think they are at a cross roads here... The Final Fantasy series is probably my most loved series of all time, but XIII missed the mark for me completely... I got so bored with that game it was frightening... The thing that bothers me the most is they know what a winning formula is... They have done it many times before... They need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel, and use the one that goes round...

Squaresofts last game was FFX, Square Enix was FFX-2 and beyond. Quite the correlation.

Man I tried to like it, but the unlikable cast, hard to follow story (l'cie? fal'cie? I still don't really know wtf they are on about.) and dumbed down combat system made it pretty much impossible...Man i must be the only person that actually enjoyed XIII

You make a good point about SquareSoft, Even FF X with the Blitzball was awesome... Its quite sad to look at it like that though...
I was just as confused by the Fal'cie L'cie what what... I though the cast was pretty cool though...

I think what's been shown is enough to convince me that this might be the next great FF title, but I do think they have a lot of convincing to do. I enjoyed the demo and am glad the battle system has been switched up a bit, but what I do feel the game is lacking is the epic romance that some of the best titles had. The story isn't looking like anything special to me yet.
