This is why South Africa has a new plug standard
Why did South Africa adopt a new socket and plug standard that no one appears to be using? There are good reasons for the decision.

Damn those two pin plugs drive me mad at times...and having a child made those old style 3 prong plug hole look enormous.
Wouldnt mind the new plug, just the time it will take to eventually have everything on one standard...
Had the new ones in my place since like 2013...
Its a good outcome - being compatible with the Euro plugs...think of it this way...we could have got some godawful tenderpreneur special that insists on hexagonal pins. So this isn't bad. Plus fixes this:

Personally i think the new standard looks a lot better. Now they just need to sell hardware on the new plugs and people will soon adopt it. We've had the plug in our house for 3 years now and I'm still waiting for those points to be used.

My question is will you be able to DIY those plugs if you need to extend/make your own power cord?
Not sure, but the current 2-prong plugs are not available as a self-attach option? I usually cut them off and throw them away, never needed to add one to a cord before.
One of the first things I bought when my wife was pregnant was those plastic protective inserts for those old three pronged plugs.
