I was at home with the flu 3 days last week. I was absolutely useless; I couldn't even game decently. So my own projects have ground to a halt. Since then, the wife was down with the flu as well, and now she's studying for exams, so I'm trying to support. Luckily my work projects have been going well, even though I had to put in some time over the weekend too.
Good for you, man. Trying anything new is re-invigorating, so it can only do you well. Worst case scenario, you lose a night that you would've spent gaming.
Well.... been struggling to find motivation of late. Between a full time job, freelancing a second, full time dad, girlfriend, moving house and general life obligations... haven't had any time for gaming of late.
Just completed my module 5 assignments, which marks the halfway point in the course. It's really going by quickly and getting more challenging. But thus far I am happy with my grades.
Well.... peace out.
-Done with exams, awaiting for the results.
-Telkom made a blunder and our ADSL line is now going to take even longer *roles eyes*
- That is why, in most cases I expect the worst so that when things do go awry, I'm not at all as disappointed as I would have been.![]()

I've also been really demotivated this last while. Since my wife's accident we have had one car less which is a hassle. So hopefully we'll get another car again soon. Also I haven't gone to the gym in, what, two weeks now?I'm just struggling to keep up. And my project hasn't had much love either.
So yes, I must make a plan.
I decided to learn Unity and it's going quite well. Luckily I know C# inside out, so I'm only getting to grips with the Unity editor, game objects, etc. I've started 2 projects in Unity so far and fiddled around with player movement, camera controls, physics, lighting and level generation using a script and prefabs. I've got a plan for a game I want to build and publish on Steam.

It seems we've all had a bit of a dip in our motivation. Life tends to happen and try to get us down. It sucks!! Believe me, I know. But, this is the MOTIVATION thread, not the wallow in self pity thread. We've all started our path to something better, something we wanted, something we need to change. And it's going to get tough. The world will turn against us. There will be many stumbling blocks. The point is that we just need to refocus and continue on our path.
I've been working my ass of in my studies. I've missed social interactions, parties and various other stuff because I had to study. And every single day I get up and think fuck this shit! I am not ready to do all this work. But you know what? My first assignment came back and I got 85%. I am so chuffed with myself! It keeps me grinding on, because I know the sacrifices I make right now will make a difference in the future. I've seen it happen, and I cannot give up right now.
So, I've stocked my house with healthy food, I've found a gym partner that will be pushing me to go to the gym, and I've planned my study times better to ensure I can still get to everything.
Also, I want to share the following video. It's all kinds of cheesy, but you know what, it's all true!
WELCOME TO THE GRIND!!!
And let me know if you want to put it on Github for other to help/play/break. I'm keen on getting to grips with C# properly, and I've I've got bucketloads of parametric modeling experience, which might come in handy for mapping and some certain object models.
