In the article they just say it will cost that much but why irk consumers by listing a low price in news media but then sell for more at launch?
You don't pay bulk pricing. They set out a ppc and that's what you pay.
There are tons of factors that come into play, like meeting previous gen sales expectations ect.

A lot more goes into it than most people realize, unfortunately SA is a shit hole for hardware.
Weak currency, high electronic goods taxes, import duties, low demand so higher pricing ect.

Just to echo what Joker is saying here a bucket load of factors play a role in local pricing. These factors can essentially be broken into direct or indirect costs. These are further broken down into the various supply chains. Good example is the iPhone 6 the manufacturing costs is around $ 220 - $ 250 per unit as it rolls out the factory. Yet we pay around R12k for an iPhone 6, the costs escalate as you have to take into account packing, warehousing, shipping, handling, taxes, port charges, distributor markup, etc etc etc... which then becomes R12k when you walk into a shop. So yes, while RRP is a fair indication for a US/UK/Aus purchase it does not take into account import duties and sales tax (VAT) for us and the exchange rate will also kill us a notch.

Realistically I see the 1080 hitting our shores at a similar price as the current 980s, I don't expect it to be much less than that.

Just wasting our breath, there are a ton of local boys that think the 1070 will retail at the current 970 price...
Good luck and God speed to them.

What I wanna know is if they are truly supporting DirectX12 or are they "supporting" it in the way the 970 is, ie no asynchronous :P

I'll wait for the 1060 to show up and see how it performs at 1080p as I don't see myself going 4k or doing VR any time soon. But I am guessing pricing will be at 3.5k or more.

Yea forgot to add the markups :/ I was hoping it would come in at the price of some of the GTX 960's (Cheapest being R 3,900) but I can only dream.

So when they were doing the demo at the presentation, were they running the games at 4k?

the game was running on a projector at a resolution of 1080p with all in-game image quality options set to their maximum values
They don't state if this was running at 4K with Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) enabled or not.
