i did a few upgrades on the work PCs but my gaming pc runs 8.1

Here is my problem - I am making extensive use of Windows Media Player and using my XBOX 360 as an extender. I believe I will loose this functionality when going to Windows 10?

Not at all, I'm still able to use my Xbox360 to play media - have you tried Plex by the way, it's pretty useful for organising your media.

Actually more of a typo - I use Microsoft's Media Center -So you connect your media extender (Xbox 360) to that with a code and you got all your media organized with the same cool interface in all your rooms.

Did use Plex before as well as MyMovies - It is just that everything I have (including my phone) is Microsoft and I somewhat like media center - it serves me well.
