    Steam settings is a great tip as is the the high priority setting in task manager.

    SSD, no. Mechanical HDD, yes, but it gets done automatically through "Automatic Maintenance"

    if you're running Windows 8+ defrag is part of "Automatic Maintenance", Windows 7 you have to schedule it with scheduler.
