You can't really choose with laptops, as the parts are generally soldered to the mobo. You're at the mercy of the manufacturer as to which parts they choose and you'll seldom, if ever, get a gaming-grade mobile GPU without an i7.

That's the sad bit, but that mostly has to do with geography since in some countries you get to stack-up your machine just how you want it. But some OEMs do get the perfect combination of price & performance, others provide different configurations of the same product pre-built.

If you're on a budget, that would be a good move. It was interesting that I didn't really see configurations of these laptops in i5 variants.

Yeah, the price on "budget" gaming laptops shocked me too. The R/$ has really hurt us.
