Fans of Microsoft's home console are in for some surprises this coming June as the company is rumored to allegedly be releasing new versions of its Xbox One console at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) as part of its Project Helix program.
Kotaku reported that Microsoft will allegedly be releasing new versions of the Xbox One: a "slim" version which will be announced at next month's E3 convention and another version featuring upgraded specs set for release sometime in 2017.
Rumors also claimed that the new "slim" version of the Xbox One will not only be smaller, occupying about 40 percent less space according to sources for The Verge, but it will also cost less. However, a reduction in volume does not apply to everything about the alleged new Xbox One, as despite being slimmer, the new version of the console will reportedly be coming with increased storage space.
The smaller Xbox One is said tp come with a whopping 2TB of hard drive space. Not only that but the new Xbox One will also come with built in support for 4K resolution graphics.
Aside from the new Xbox One "slim," Microsoft is also said to be releasing an updated version of the console with upgraded features such as a more powerful graphics processing unit (GPU), which coincides with the above mentioned speculated 4K support for the Xbox One "slim."
Currently labeled with the codename "Scoprio," the more powerful Xbox One is slated for release next year and will allegedly be capable of supporting the Oculus Rift, which follows rumors that Microsoft is planning on forming a partnership with Oculus.
The news follows leaks that surfaced last month from the Federal Communications Commision (FCC), which suggested that Microsoft was working on new wireless chips for the Xbox One. The leak was shared by user ekim on the Neogaf forums, featuring a photo of one of the alleged wireless chips.
At any rate, the rumors suggest that Microsoft is working on beefing up its Xbox One console with the most major upgrades set to be released in 2017. More news may come when E3 2016 begins on June 14.
