    Final Fantasy XIII Review (MyGaming)

FFXIII is unlikely to win over any new fans for FF, nor will it appease long standing enthusiasts

I find this review a bit harsh especially since the reviewer has never played another FF before...I mean for me that score was rough...65% because you dont like the genre?

The fact that Ive never played another FF title is exactly why I chose to review this title. I looked at it not as someone with an expectation of the series heritage but as someone new wanting to be impressed.

I gave it 65% because the game play was unimaginative, the visuals where good for mostly static backgrounds, the controls where basic and the plot completely too long. Im all for a 30 hour epic where im on the edge of my seat for 15 of those. But a 60 hour game where Im hardly ever on the edge of my seat does not trill me. The only reason the game is that long is because the player spend hours upon hour upon hours fighting the same monsters over and over again. There is no fighting for the sake of progressing, just fighting for the sake of something to do. I actually fell asleep fighting one of the bosses because all input it needed from me was to push "auto" battle every couple of seconds.

Now this could be because Im use to wester RPG. Granted. However seeing as FF is expanding its horizons and went the JRPG 101 route it only serve as a testament to is failure as it failed to draw someone new into a genre which this new player had looked forward to exploring and has actually gone so far as to put the new player of JRPG's in general.

The game deserve praise in several sections, which i believe i gave, the characters are interesting in a weird Anime kinda way, The plot is interesting and surprisingly deep but due to it being unnecessarily stretched the plot doesn't feel as crucial as it should. The combat and general gameplay however do not deserve any praise. It feels like a total regression of what an RPG, any kind of RPG, should be.

But then again these are just my thoughts... at least I didn't give it 40% which almost happened after a particularly infuriating section.

Lol fair enough, at the risk of sounding like a fan boi myself I also think that sadly the FF franchise is slightly on the decline. It seems to me its all about the money with Square-Enix now, just churning out games that are mediocre and also trying to catch the western market with FF13, thereby ignoring its long time fans and hoping people will still love it because "its a final fantasy game" Suppose releasing FF13 on the 360 was a sign that they looking into a new demographic but if they are not careful they will lose the old fans as well as gain no new 1s.

FF VII still the best FF ever!!! :P

I think this game was made this way to attract more people. In that regard I think it possibly did, but it hurt longterm fans. Everything seemed to be streamlined, so much so that it felt lacking on so many levels. If one had to take the time and see what was changed, or better neglected, you would be shocked.

A sad fan here. But like Strife said, Square-Enix has been going downhill for some time now. Not just on their 3rd party games, but their in-house titles as well.

All I can say is: GIEF Persona 5 !!!

Hmmm , The Ballroom scene was good , but at that stage you didn't yet have a proper feeling for the characters. In my opinion.
