Thread: Our alternative Wedding Cake...

    Default Our alternative Wedding Cake...

So the wedding is fast approaching and times is getting few, as they'd say in Ventersdorp. With that I'm rather excited about an idea my fiance and I had about a wedding cake. Usually, wedding cakes are preposterously expensive items which rarely ever taste as good as they look. Then again, what should a cake taste like that costs anywhere from R3000 to R5000?

So instead of wasting a bag full of money on something like that, we decided on using Cadbury's Sweetie Pies, 96 of them to be exact, and stack them in some sort of tower formation. Surrounding the Sweetie Pie tower will be waves of Cadbury's Whispers. Obviously we'll have the odd decoration in place to make it look a bit more "fancy", but if you ask me, merely the idea of a table stacked with a butt load of Sweetie Pies and Whispers blows any R5000 cake clear out the window.

Even though these chocolaty treats are expensive, they're not nearly as expensive as a traditional wedding cake. I think this whole chocolate tower will go well with the various other desserts that our menu will have that day. That's right, the chocolate tower is not even the official dessert for the evening

What do you think of that idea?

That's the other suggestion we had for the cake. IF you're going to go for a cake, it may as well be a flippen LEKKER cake. Skip all the icing and hand-made icing flowers made by blind monks in Tibet and get a good tasting cake for crying out loud. Seriously, being told that "wedding" cakes are R3000 to R5000 and that's accepted by everyone just confuses me.

I hope your wedding goes well dude! Congrats! I can't wait till our day comes...and GOES for that matter. Really looking forward to the honeymoon, going on 5 weeks leave

LOL...your comments are depicting the evolution of our idea. It went from "good tasting" normal cake, to cupcakes (which is really in fashion these days) to the stuff me and the to-be Mrs. love a LOT....chocolate. So naturally Sweetie Pies were the logical choice

Sweetie Pies have always been an absolute favorite of mine since childhood (I remember you got the strawberry and weird green minty ones in the past - wonder why the got canned?) So seeing a tower of them is going to be tear-jerkingly beautiful.

Im at that point also, want it to come but also want it to just bugger off.

See the cake is still costing us a grand or 2 but its chocolate and its being cut into pieces for the guest. So none of this, "oh it too pretty to eat" BS.
Take it from me dude, save where u can. But dont go too each . I am still looking for a Han Solo and Princess Leia to put on the cake....

Ill be sure to post some pics so ya'll can see.

You could also have a giant profita-roll tower or a pherero roche (spelling) one.
