What Is Your Equaliser? (Sound Performance)
Hi All,
Reading and article in one of my Speed and Sound's got me thinking...
Sound is essential for most games we play, movies and series we watch and music we listen to.
What is your preferred setup?
What makes yours stand out from all the rest?
Are you a boot/trunk vibrate-or, OR do you prefer to sit back and listen to elevator music while drinking Earl Grey Tea?
Perhaps you like your Earl Grey while in the back seat of your GTi trying not to spill it...

To be honest, I'm not really sure what we're discussing here. Our sound setup? Music preferences? Car audio? Hot beverages?

How you prefer to hear your sound? Be it movie, videogames, whatever.
Do you like your bass, prefer treble, a mixture?
Edit: I like a mixture of solid bass with high treble. Bass is not overwhelming but has a solid thump and treble is audible enough to hear a pin drop.

No particular preference - I listen to mostly electronic music anyway. Its kinda distorted by its very nature so no point in chasing after the "true" settings really.
I don't like it being loud though...I very much enjoy having my hearing intact & plan on maintaining that status quo for a long time to come. Same for excessive treble...pretty sure that screws with hearing.
As for setups...usually shoot for headphones round the 1k mark - Senns or something. Next set will probably be something a bit higher though since the gods have smiled upon me as of late.My little sis has these and they're glorious: (She has 32 ohm ones though)

So yeah...usually don't run with an equalizer unless I'm trying to compensate for something extra crap (really cheap headphones/player). I can actually tune this stuff if I have to (used to be a sound tech for a band & my mentor did endless drills of "identify the frequency") so its not a case of can't tell the difference.

I'm a bass type of guy.
Have a 4400w hifi connected to my PC for lekker bass during explosions in both games and movies, 10" subs and the sound clarity comes with the whole setup.
In the car i have a bass-setup as well.
My headphones, are more gaming/treble focused.. Coolermaster Sonuz

I do a lot of sound engineering on the side for minor and major events, and like he says, upping the ante too much on either bass, treble or volume is gonna screw with your sound quality. Also, as he says, a good pair of Sennheisers between R1k and R3k will give you something to kick most other headphones' asses around. Beyerdynamic is also awesome though.
As for EQ, I prefer to keep it flat, and to buy headphones that have a flat response as well. I'm running with the Senn HD380 Pro on my home setup at the moment, but looking to upgrade to open-back 'phones at some point. You only EQ to compensate for bad EQ on the recording side, meaning that to get perfect sound you'd still probably need to EQ most modern songs, but there is no one-size-fits all solution. Flat is the closest you'd get to "perfect", and if it's off, it'll still be the closest on average.

Treble and mid-range for me, because I listen mostly to metal. Excessive bass drowns out the instruments and vocals. I prefer listening through headphones, as it's more personal and you can focus on the music. I currently rock a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M30X headies.
