You can get the items by running onto the bridge up to a certain point that triggers the Dragon's flight over the bridge. As soon as he's triggered run back and with a bit of luck you should have enough time to pick everything up. Easy.
Or you could wait and kill the dragon a bit later on.
I've spent 230+ hours on the game (imported Asian version) and it is one of the best games ever. It's tough but after a while you get the hang of it. Play the game with a friend. Much more fun and it makes it easier.
TIP: BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK and then BLOCK some more!
