I went off FPS online gaming a couple of years ago, but I still can enjoy the singleplayer. The online value means less and less to me, so a 6hr singleplayer experience is not worth the price of admission for me personally. I guess the reason they are doing this is because people want online more than singleplayer (making it so equates to more money for them), and that perhaps creating the online portions of the game are not as intensive as a well structured singleplayer experience?

It all comes down to money these days, always.
This is a reason most people wait for the game to hit bargin bin, when the price of admission is lower and more fitting to the game expierence. I know not the best for developers to make money but it the only way the consumer can be sure he is not gonna get rip off for the lack of game play either way it affects sales. And the developer looses a broader market segment by making the game shorter.

Agreed the online aspect does make them money becuase people always go back, but in the long run it cost money as the number of online players dwindle and the game looses it grip on the public. Online multiplayers are like a good cake you start enjoying yourself and getting maximun satisfaction but the longer you eat the less satisfaction you obtain. Until it gets to the point you just leave it off. i think developers really need to look at the balancing act of game more closly.
