Default My Gtx 480 - Results and general impressions

    Hi all

For those of you that are interested ,I did a few benches with my new 480 last night.First of all I was using the latest version of MSI Afterburner and Kombustor to monitor temps, fan speeds ,ect.I cranked the fan up to 100,its a little louder than my old gtx285 but negotiable(btw I always set the fan to 100 when gaming)As far as heat is concerned with the fan on 100 temps never hit above 62 deg's,so for me heat is definately not an issue.

I also tried some overclocking and will include the OC results in the benches.Stock speeds on the card is 700/1400/1850 and using Afterburner I easily got 800/1600/2000,but decided to back down a little bit and settled for 775/1550/1975(I might increase later)

    Onto the benches:

    Far Cry 2 - Max settings,DX10, 8xAA 1920x1080

    gtx 285 - 52.44 fps
    gtx 480 - 84.46 fps
    gtx 480 OC - 94.59 fps

as you can see, massive gains over the 285!!!

    Just Cause 2 - Max settings,DX10,16xAA,16xAF 1920x1080

    Dark Tower bench

    gtx 285 - 44.49 fps
    gtx 480 - 63.62 fps
    gtx 480 OC - 71.08 fps

    Desert Sunrise bench

    gtx 285 - 59.14 fps
    gtx 480 - 95.11 fps
    gtx 480 OC - 104.23 fps

again massive gains across the board

With Metro 2033 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 I did not have a proper benchmark tool,so I took average gameplay frame rates.

    Metro 2033 - DX11,High settings,4xAA,4xAF 1920x1080

Getting between 55-78 fps in most areas

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 - DX11,Max settings,16xAF,32xAA!!! 1920x1080

Getting between 78- 105 fps in most areas.

So I am very very happy with the new card and would recommend it to anyone with the cash to spend. If you are interested in getting one,you wont be sorry.Feel free to ask any questions if there is something else you want to know.

    Hope this was helpfull.

    Cheers

I currently have a two GTX280's in SLI. So far I couldn't find any solid evidence to justify buying these cards over my current setup yet. Thanks for the benchies though, that's VERY informative.

I just want to ask, what CPU are you on?
My ignore list: growing too fast to keep updating.

If I was running 2x280 or 2x285's I would not upgrade either,DX11 is nice but not that nice. But compared to my single 285 it was definately a nice upgrade.

Gosh I've got a single GTX280 and those FPS on BFBC2 are just AMAZING especially considering you're using 16xAF,32xAA !
    Oh my Hatski

Have a look at your case ambient temp tho, I've also got the big HAF case and with my GTX280 running at 85-90°C during heavy gaming sessions the room temp definately goes up. An extra 10°C will probably raise room temps even further.

But for those gains - wow, quite a nice upgrade - me thinks

@slipperyduck-Is your fan speed on "auto" cause my temps never go above 62deg's with 100% fan speed(a bit loud, but i crank up the speakers!!) en all other components are nice and cool.My overclocked cpu idles at 36 deg's and I never see above 60 deg's even after hours of gaming.

Thing is, The 400 series cards are still in their infancy, and already looking quite good I see some good gains there. Expect better results with future driver releases.

    Dankie vir die benchies vetbeer

What main difference do you see with DX11 in BC2, if you had to compare to DX10?
