Link it to a user account that you need to connect to to play your game. DVD Key linked to an account.

The solutions are out there, and considering the huge amount of money lost due to lending/renting and buying 2nd hand, I'm sure it has crossed people minds quite a few times.

Lending: God of war3 has been around to 2 people who didn't buy it here at work. That is 2 lost sales. Picked up ME2 2nd hand - another lost sale. And the number if times I've rented a game to finish it in 1 night as well dips those sales figures.

But I think the consoles are a bit shy to go there because people will just jump to the other console platform but i think it's on the horizon. Matter of fact, wouldn't surprise me if the next next gen consoles run very much like steam does. Download on demand [no disks needed] and you need to be online to play.
