Thread: New pc for editing and rendering for 28k

Default New pc for editing and rendering for 28k

OK, so I've decided that I need an upgrade from my old editing PC. I want to go with the i7-6800K for the more cores to be utilised by after effects and premiere pro, as far as I understand it GPUs don't carry too much importance with editing and after effects,(I won't be doing any ray-tracing) so I'm not really sure if my planned system has the proper balance between cpu, gpu, ssd, etc.

Here is what I'm planning on getting

    Intel Broadwell-E i7-6800K 3.40GHz, LGA2011-3 Price: R7,853 Rebeltech
Cooler Master Hyper D92, with 2x 92mm PWM Fans Price: R662 Rebeltech
MSI X99A SLI PLUS DDR4 Motherboard Price: R4,199 Evetech
    HyperX Fury 32GB kit(4x8gb) DDR4 2400mhz Price: R2,399 Evetech
SAMSUNG 750 EVO 500GB SSD Price: R2,099 Evetech
    Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3..5" SATA6G, 7200Rpm Price: R1,303 Reveltech
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 960, 4GB Price R4,145 Rebeltech
    Cooler Master B, 700w (Version 2) Price: R1,303 Rebeltech
RAIDMAX VORTEX V4 Midi Tower ATX Price: R500 Rebeltech
Samsung 27" LED FHD Price: R4595 Rebeltech

    Total: R28,766

I'd massively appreciate any input, thanks.

Quick question, do you use this PC to generate income, as in is this your primary work machine?

Cool, so my suggestion would be (and this might sound counter-intuitive):

    Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2643 v4 (20M Cache, 3.40 GHz)
    X99A WORKSTATION Motherboard
    MegaRAID SAS 9271-8i RAID controller
    HyperX Fury 32GB kit(4x8gb) DDR4 2400mhz
    2 x SAMSUNG 750 EVO 500GB SSD Price
    3 x 1TB SATA6G 7200 drives

    Keep the GTX 960

This is similar to the workstations I spec for guys that do video editing. RAID 1 on the OS SSDs and RAID 5 on the SATA 7.2k drives

Wow, that sounds amazing, however, it is a bit beyond my price range. I'm trying to keep it around 28k, from what I can see the processor alone would be almost all of that. Did you maybe misunderstand, that the parts mentioned are what I already own?

My current PC is as follows:

    i7-4790 Quad-Core 3.6GHz LGA 1150
    20GB DDR3 1600 memory
    Multiple 7200 sata6g drives
    MSI Z97 PC Mate
    GTX 650 1GB

I would really suggest getting a Xeon, even if it's a Quad Core Xeon. The performance is simply amazing (over a similar spec i7)

You can grab a much better GPU than the 960 at that price. RebelTech has the 970 with a bonus SSD for less than R4k on sale currently...
