As a long time and still active player I believe this change will make the game a lot easier for people to start as well easier to return to the game.

With the limits placed on a free character you can get involved in a lot of the fun stuff in Eve, including PVP so it is not very restrictive at all.

Looking forward to having more people in game!

I really want to play it but it just looks like one of those games that require way too much time.

As a big EVE fan I'm very happy with this change. The player numbers have been going down, and this might just inject a lot of new players into the game.

You can start a trial account now and start playing in the meantime. By the time your trial has expired the game will be free to play and your account will automatically convert.

Lots of South Africans play it, all the time. If you are making a new char, consider joining Faction Warfare for some real fun. It is light on the in game pocket, lots of people want to teach you.

Also if you are playing for free, you can still have a big impact and enjoy really fun PVP in faction warfare space with the skills you are allowed to have as an Alpha clone.
