Hey guys, my ps3 is battling to read some discs it seems and I wanted some advice from anyone who's had a similar problem. From what I can determine it only occurs when the PS3 has to read alot off the disc, i.e. Cutscenes are jittery, ingame music skips or loops, certain games are fine like Dead Space, however uncharted 1 and 2 have major issues. Not only are the cutscenes unwatchable but so are the developer videos in the bonus section. God of war 3 is unplayable too,and FfXIII.streaming content via Ps3 media server is fine which led me to believe it is a problem with the laser or dirt on the lense. Another note the ps3 interface is laggy when browsing through menus, it ocasionally will freeze the ps3 for about 10sec and then it's ok again. Really frustrating. I want to try a lense cleaner disc but I've heard they can do more damage than good. The last thing I want is to send it to partserv... it's only 5months old got it in december.
It's running the latest firmware 3.3.0, but this occured before. I'll try doing a system restore this evening, but I still think the laser may be dirty or damaged. Has anyone had good experiences with Partserv, i'm not a fan of getting a refurb model...
My online searches showed that it could've been the harddrive also that were going. So, moral of the story is back up your stuff asap!! It got so bad that I couldn't backup my stuff....would just fail every time so lost a lot of data in the process...
