I'll see your game map sizes, and raise you a bigger one. And an even bigger one!
(Sauces with those?)

Darkfall has easily the most humongous "hand made" map ever and the only loading screen is the one upon entering the game.
Is that it? Elite: Frontier II's Universe had about 100,000,000,000 star systems spanning over multiple galaxies. Every star system respectively had a star, and multiple planets. You could land on all these planets, most had cities to dock with and trade.
And not to mention some of the star system's, right down to the one we're in now, were accurately placed.
It gets twice as amazing when you realize it was an old Amiga game that was under a megabyte in size. EVE Online is a baby's space sim in comparison to Frontier: Elite II. You didn't even fly the ship in EVE, you just clicked and watched. In Frontier you looked through the cockpit, had to control thrusters and manually fire your weapons (lasers, missiles, etc.). Mind you you can buy autopilot systems for the ship, but you still need to watch out in case you get jumped by space pirates.
It's impossible to discuss the scope of this game to anyone who hasn't played it. But put it this way, very few players, even hardcores, have seen everything this game has to offer.
