If you got a xbox 360 then street fighter and the old sega games. My brother is 5 and playing those games.
I think Burnout Paradise would be a good choice.

Thing is for now he will mainly be playing on my brothers PC, that is why I put it in the PC section.
Get a sega emulator. And get sonic,altered beast,earthworm jim.
I have a 7 year old nephew and I started him out on the following:
Burnout - Easy to get into and actually requires that you hit everything else on the road
Mini Ninja's
Lego Star wars
Lego Batman - In fact the whole Lego series of games
Tomb Raider Underworld
Prince of Persia
Basically any game that is not too violent and can develop some skill in both reasoning and thought logic
