Exactly this. She doesnt mind me gaming, she says she's happy that I'm home with them, rather than out and about. She does game herself too from time to time, mostly Tomb Raider but not alot. Even though I like gaming, I like spending time with my family, I can see especially with my son, he wants my attention, and that wont last lost forever. So I like building a bond with him. Same with my wife, my live isnt just gaming, its my family.

But saying that, I need my gaming time, I need to chill and relax a bit, and she is 100% fine with that. I used to attend a LAN once every month, she was 100% ok with that. Always joked as long as I get something for her too.

To me, like everything, comes down to balance.

A friend of mine who passed away last year told me this story, he said when he was getting serious with his then girlfriend, she told him to choose between computers (he was a progammer and gamer) and her. He told her, he was really going to miss her, but he cant just forget about computers, its what makes him tick.
They got married and stayed happily married until he passed away. You cant and shouldnt change a gamer, like you wouldnt change the (obviously not bad habbits) habbits of any other person, same with us gamers.

Also, starting to game with my son, he loves it, great bonding time.

Parting thought, I've noticed with my son, atm, he just wants my attention, he just want us to spend time with him, thats very important to him and I think in the long run builds a bond.

Well said VirtualForce.

I remember playing 64bit games with my dad. Old battle city and excite bike.
He was never a gamer, but we used to play during family time.

i agree with VirtualForce. my wife also prefers it because im home and not out on the town. lol but for me when we get home its family time with the wife and a 3 year old daughter.
everyday at 8 i start youtube and finish that at 9 or 10. then i game until 11 or 12 and sleep.
its all about balance.
also it helps that my wife is asleep by 9 and my daughter about 9:30. hahaha

Married gamer here and I have a 2 year old boy. I somehow have plenty time to game but I've often had enough gaming for the day at around the 2 hour mark. So it works well for everyone.

Married with children here. Two boys, 9 and 7. Have to say, trying smuggle time to game is a constant challenge. The only thing working in my favour is that the missus loves her sleep. more often than not, she goes to make the kids sleep and ends up falling asleep as well. But during school holidays, im pretty much starved of gametime can only jam when everyone else is asleep.

I think the dream for most gamers would be to have a spouse who also games. I've been slowly trying to get my Fiance into gaming, she loves little big planet is really the only thing we have played, tried a bit of Minecraft which she seemed to enjoy but we haven't played since then. I feel that she was doing it just cause I wanted her to, not cause she wanted to play...

Anyway, it's a slow process!

Been having the American group over for waffles and just dance... One girl walked in, saw my Mass Effect collection and called me the coolest guy ever.

Might have to get out the ceremonial marriage sack for that one! (I kid, I kid!)
