Default Water cooling- How to Start

So since it seems like there were a few people interested in the Water cooling 101 thread, I thought I would make the next thread. How to start Water Cooling and choosing the correct components.

First things first. You need to choose components which are compatible with your case, especially the radiators.
Radiators in a PC work exactly the same as in a car. The water flows through thin fins, getting cooled by air blown through by fans in either a push, pull or push/pull configuration (Fans in front, Behind or both).

    There are a few common radiator sizes, 120mm, 140mm, 240mm, 280mm, 360mm, 480mm.
These are directly correlated to the fans sizes going onto the radiator. Meaning a 120mm takes 1 x 120mm fan. A 280mm takes 2 x 140mm fans and a 360mm takes 3 x 120mm fans. Now each of these number of fans can be doubled if you put the fans in a push/pull config.

Most modern cased have space for a radiator in front, on top and at the back.

Another competent s size that need to be taken into consideration is the pump and res.
You can either get the pump and res separately or as one unit (res/pump combo).
You get 2 separate kinds of reservoir shapes. One being Tube and the other a bay. The Tube is the most common as it can easily be mounted and not take up lots of space, where as the bay is very limited to where it can fit.

There are 2 main kinds of pump to look at. The D5 and the DDC pumps. Both being very reliable and excellent pumps.
The D5 is much larger, but a bit quieter than the DDC pumps. So if your space is limited and tight, stick to a DDC pump.

In the next thread we will discuss deciding on what kind of tubing to use with which fitting. Soft, Acrylic, PETG and all the fittings going with each.

    Default

There were about 2 people that were actually following and wanted to start building their own Custom Loops.

Just by show of hands who would like more threads about custom cooling your hardware?
