Thinking of trading some games in to get this.

I also find it challenging at times. I came across my second Tallneck last night and there were cultist trying to take it out. Had to get rid of them first then while doing that there was a spider-machine type which I also had to deal with. Died a few times so spent a better half of the night trying for that Tallneck.
Upgrading your bow and armor helps a lot as well. Using Focus can expose a machine's weakness so you can use the appropriate bow to take them down.
I realised i am working down the street from the devs of this game (in amsterdam), so i got extra motivated to get it. Must say, love this game so far. I wish Witcher 3 had combat like this ;-) .
Anyhow, yea, looks like they intentionally designed it that you will pretty much die against any machine if you just mindlessly attack. Pretty much -have- to target their vulnerable spots and shoot off their components (to shut down whatever special attacks they might have). It is one of the few games i've felt obligated to study the "notes" on each enemy and what exactly to shoot for.
Enjoying the open world freedom again, i've been playing "on-rails" games the last year almost , so i've missed one where you just trek across the landscape doing side quests or main quests. I am not sure whether it is as big as Witcher 3, but the character movement/agility is 1000x better than the Witcher , which results in me exploring way more than is needed it seems. Hell, even Lara Croft (the new ones) feels less agile than this character.
Anyhow, definitely recommended to try!
