A user from another forum shared the following email from Microsoft which details a lot of important info regarding the ransomware and how to prevent infections.
Microsoft has also made KB4012598 available for earlier versions of Windows as well. So if you are an unfortunate soul like me who is responsible for an XP, Windows 8 or Windows Server 2003 machine you can grab it from the Microsoft Update Catalog here.
