Default New PC build for a friend

    Hi all

A friend asked me to build her a PC for R10k (case with components only, and she also needs a mouse), max budget is R12k; however I know money is tight so I'm working around R10k.

Below is what I put together. Any comments or changes you guys would suggest?

    Looks good.

Was going to recommend a upgrade kit from Evetech, but seems your CPU, MOBO and ram bundle is same price.

Maybe look at this, too. Same price, but i5:

i5, but a non TI GTX1050. Also a h110 chipset. I think my build would be slightly faster in most gaming situations (apart from multiplayer games that need more cpu power)

Is Ryzen not better bang for buck at this point in time?

I only saw Ryzen 5 CPU's and they are more expensive than the i5 7500, so too were the motherboards. I did consider it.

IMO people building these super low budget machines are wasting money. Saw a few more months and buy a medium range pc. Because in less than a year that PC will be obsolete

I wouldn't classify this is as super low budget, but rather lower mid range, or just mid range even. Super low budget is like gt 1030 with a pentium, etc. (of course my opinion). The GTX 1060 is already higher mid range (comparable to the GTX980) and no slouch.

She has been saving up for quite some time and she decided on this budget quite a while ago; she won't be spending more money on a PC than this. I won't go into the details.

It definitely falls in the lower range. 1060 bring mid range.
I understand yeah, I just have never done things like this. I like to future proof, even if that means I have to save even longer.

To me it is like buying a car that you know needs a service in 1000km. But you still buy it because it is R2000.00 cheaper than the car that has just been serviced.

As for the CPU statement. There are no specific Genre of games that you can say is specifically CPU intensive.
It depends on the creators, and how it is optimized.
For example CS is heavily CSGO dependent. I can play CSGO, Dota2 and HOTS on medium to high with just my CPU as an example

Well, consider the last Steam Hardware survey, and see how many people are still on "low end" hardware. More than 61% of all Steam users according to the study still uses a GPU weaker than a 1050, its totally understandable. Not everyone wants to to play the latest and greatest games at the best possible settings. Normal people can't afford to have that, even if they try and save. Also, I paid around R10k for my PC a few years ago, and it's still more than capable of playing everything I want.
