Not everyone wants to to play the latest and greatest games at the best possible settings. Normal people can't afford to have that, even if they try and save. Also, I paid around R10k for my PC a few years ago, and it's still more than capable of playing everything I want.
Yeah don't get me wrong. There is 0 wrong with it. I just don't see it like that and don't do things that way either. If you are saving up for something, surely you want it to last long.

Games that seem potato now sure were not potato 5-8 years ago. So the low end games of the future might not be playable on the same system in 8 years on which you played low end games then.

    Head over to carb
    - PotterH sells New i7 - 6700s at R2600

    - If needed - value select variants of ram do the exact same thing and save a bit, double check that on the net.

    - Used 970s - 2700-3000, possibly with warranty, is faster than a 1050ti. Link

    - SSD is a huge upgrade, if space isn't an issue or she has an external drive / another hard drive. 250s are under 700-1k, and is the lowest size i'd go for. If i recall correctly that board supports m.2 and they are as I said in that price range and even faster than your sata SSDs.

    Rest seems fine.

    Hope that helps

Unfortunately I can't increase the cost of one component without saving money on something else. I did look at valueram, it saves about R100 at most.

I'm not seeing any 970's at that price on Carbonite at the moment, otherwise I could have considered it. I don't really want to take the Carb "risk" with someone else's money; I will check with her is she is oky with it. Can perhaps score a bit.

Her current PC is really old, as in IDE HDD old. So she won't keep her old drives and needs a new one. This means I can't fit an SSD in at this price point. Maybe later on she can get an SSD on top.

Below is what I put together. Any comments or changes you guys would suggest?

    Attachment 24473
    Ryzen 5 + GTX 1060 3GB

You could probably get some components at a cheaper price, at other places. I'll shop around and update as I find them cheaper.

    EDIT

I'd go with a G4560 or G4620 over a i3 since they are basically the same. (Pentium's now have HT just like the i3) If you going to stick with a i3, get the 7100, it's cheaper and the 7300 offers no real advantage being 100mhz faster. I would have recommend a RX 470/570 but no one has stock due to bitcoin mining, so the GTX1050Ti would do nicely with the Pentium but I'd bump it up to a GTX1060 with an i3+.

Here's a cheaper build: i3 + GTX1050Ti The Model of H110 From ASRock is compatible with KabyLake out of the box, anything else needs a bios flash with a SkyLake CPU, or it won't boot.

    EDIT 2
    You could push it to 12k with a R5 1400, A320M and a GTX 1060 6GB, or Switch out the GTX1050ti for a 1060.

Except that's a battle you'll never win. If tech is advancing rapidly then it's not future proof even if you buy top end.

Thanks for the reply Glordit. Which website is that screen cap from?

I made some changes after your post. I also spoke to my friend again, she would rather not push the cost up to R12k if it can be avoided.

I'm also keeping an eye on Carb for any nice deals. I told her to give it time, perhaps we get lucky with something on Carb.

    It's from Raru, surprisingly.

    Edit

The first is from Raru, the second from Rebeltech.
