    Default Headphones. Surround vs Stereo

A good pair of headphones has always been top priority in my gaming arsenal.
Since I mostly play FPS games, sound is almost just as important as the visuals.

The other day I was thinking, what is up with all the Surrounds Sound headphones. I have tried a pair and for me it was terrible (with regards to FPS Gaming that is).
So now you get 2 "kinds" of surround sound headphones. True and Synthetic surround sound. True being that your headphones actually have smaller speakers in each cup to make directional noises as required, Synthetic being your headphones of stereo speakers and digitally produces the surround sound effect.
Both feeling synthetic to me however. As the proximity and direction of the sound coming from the headphones is very small, it can never feel like true surround sound.

I feel that sticking to me old trusty good quality Stereo Headphones remains the best way to go.

What have you guys found? Anyone with true surround sound headphones that love them?

    Oh hi friend

I always go for stereo headphones. No need for virtual surround sound or actual surround sound headphones. Just a good pair of headphones can relatively accurately produce binaural sound localisation.

I've tried surround sound headphones before, but it just sounds like they're collectively increasing the size of the sound stage. I've also tried using the Razer Surround software, which is just virtualized surround, but it definitely isn't necessary.

With clever audio manipulation, stereo headphones can produce surround sound, but if someone prefers 7.1 headphones like the Razer Kraken V2s, there's nothing wrong with that. They're excellent headphones.

I have the CM Storm Sirus 5.1 headset, and although the sound is good it can sometimes be quite tricky to get the volume on the front, side and rear speakers correct, so that it isn't loud when looking towards an NPC that is talking and then soft when looking away, for instance. It can become quite a mission and it seems to sometimes differ from one game to another, so it requires tweaking each time.

Headphones with multiple drivers are also heavy. If I compare mine with my wifes HyperX Cloud, hers is much more comfortable.

My next headphones will definitely be stereo.

I rather enjoy my turtle beach z6a's that my sister bought me from Hong Kong. They've lasted a good while (altho the mic hasnt) and until people started getting used to HRTF in CSGO, I would be able to more accurately call spots based on footsteps than others.

I think tho that since games are being "optimized" (so to speak) for stereo more than true surround, that that along with cost would probably make my next purchase like a Siberia V2 or something similar (stereo).

    but i dont hate them
