Importing a GPU from USA

HI Guys

So I know this has been asked a million times but I cant see to find up to date info or speak to someone that has done recently.

Vega is out and I would like to import one from the USA as I feel its going to be cheaper going that route is it really worth it is the import cost a lot I have family there is it possible they can open it and sent it as a gift or just a package basically what is my options more or less and pricing at customs this side.

From What I can see Amazon tries to pay the Import tax for you, it calculates once the item is in your cart.

From my experience, your import cost on items like these is the least of your worries -- it's the courier that will hurt you.

Amazon's import tax estimations have got really accurate, and when I ordered my GTX1080s they handled all my import duties. The courier called and asked for my ID number or importer's code and the cards were released the very next day. No further payment needed.

So as far as I'm concerned, the price you see on Amazon is the price you'll pay, give or take a few rand depending on which exchange option you go for.

Yup! They include the courier cost in the price at checkout.

Amazon works fine, just don't choose the cheapest shipping option. I had a watch come via SAPO, and we all know how incredibly trustworthy those okes are.

I bought my GTX1070 (and Oculus Rift on another occasion) from Amazon. All the costs were calculated upfront by Amazon and it arrived in a matter of days. I even got a small refund from Amazon a few weeks later as they over-estimated the import tax in the initial payment. As Jan says, the courier cost is quite steep, but it still works out cheaper than buying locally. That only leaves the warranty as a potential issue to worry about. But I've been very happy with my Amazon purchases so far. I also bought some books from Amazon, using their "standard mail" which took 3 months!!! to arrive. Don't go there, use courier, priority, or registered/tracked option if at all possible.
