Does anyone here seriously believe that Team Fortress Classic with zero percent discount achieved a 36.27% surge in ownership in one month?

Or that Blueshift is selling more copies than CSGO?

Or that a 4 year old game (CoH2) surged 60% in one month despite no discount?

While I see your point, SteamSpy has been fairly, if not perfectly accurate in many other cases. There should be no reason to question the accuracy of the data. Rather the actual data itself. The "best selling" dataset from SteamSpy is only showing biggest changes in owners for the month, as far as I understand it. It by no means shows what is popular in SA. Also, our sales numbers are a low base, so any change will show much larger percentages than normal. So statistically the data may be correct, but is painting a completely wrong picture. I suspect that's the case here.

    1 PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS
Had this game for < 2 hours playtime, got a refund

Don't know how people in SA can enjoy this game; such lag

There is when the data shows stuff that is clearly absurd

The data is pretty ridiculous no matter how you look at it. Yes it's extrapolated and with ZA's low base that can result in unrealistic numbers but someone with a bit of gaming knowledge should easily have spotted it. I mean when last did you even hear about Blueshift in *any* context? And now it's killing the sales rankings...

    Maybe these articles are automated?

It does look like the data is wrong. I'm not registered with SteamSpy but those games mentioned doesn't make sense.
