LOL I used* Steam from about 2005 until September 2010.
*I write "used" there because I can't think of a better word at the moment. There was certainly never any use for it that I found. Just a hindrance getting between me and my games.
Question: I bought the retail version of Metro 2033 and had to register it with Steam. After playing it through I thought it was a bit crap. Can I give it away and the recipient will be able to play it, or is that registration code locked to my Steam account forever?
steam works (as used by metro, empire, napoleon and possibly shogun 2) means it's tied to your account permanently. there is whispers of maybe sometime along the line you would be able to turn in your game for credits, but i guess that is only for those that you have bought digitally and not just titles using steam works for protection.
i've only had gross issues (such as repetitive updating/downloading) with steam in the very beginning which they eventually fixed. steam works is one way to combat piracy, though even that can be cracked as with most protections.
this as with all things going towards always on and always connected has only one (ok maybe two) countries in mind... usa. they don't give a flying fuck if we have shitty internet and have to suffer because of their mechanics they are trying to implement to hush away piracy and to better the services (like battle.net 2).
and yes, metro was not so good as i would have loved it to be.
