Thread: Witcher 3 too difficult

  1. #1

    Default Witcher 3 too difficult

Having a rough time playing this.

Seems all enemies are either way to powerful or way too weak (and thus no exp).

Can't explore since I'm literally just planning my movements around where can I go & not die.

I've already set it to the lowest difficultly and I completed every single quest in the 1st level (white orchard) to make sure I level up appropriately.

Reading on the internet it seems the main suggestion amounts to "dodge better" & use signs...both of which I'm trying to do. I'm not bad at 1st persons...on a good day I'm top of the board on a pub MP server in TF2 or whatever so it's not a question of coordination. Yet if I need to hit 3 enemies 20x each and they only need to hit me 3x well the math isn't looking good.

And it's been like that pretty much from the start of play this so not sure it's a levelling issue even.

Not having much fun with this atm...exploring is no fun if every encounter has a 9/10 chance of ending in a reload.

idk...it's obviously a good game but not sure what to do here.

    Thoughts?

EDIT: Level 5 & at start of Velen or whatever level comes after White Orchard, which is the suggested level for that.

Haven't played the game in over two years, but I remember there is a lot of places in the beginning of Velen, where you'll have a difficult time. Some monsters could be up to level 20 around there. I'd say (if I remember correctly), stick to the areas around where the main mission takes you. Do a mission and clear surrounding areas after the mission.

EDIT: Can even go back to previous map (Was is White Orchard?) and make sure you've done all side quest etc.

Seeing that you've already done the side quests and also are level 5 at Velen (I'm at the same spot and a level behind you). I can suggest - Using the Quen sign to negate the damage of a hit or two, dodging as you've mentioned as well as trying to single out enemies and not get crowded. Also have you crafted some stronger armour? There's also a "perk" in the general tab giving you a bonus 500 vitality if I recall correctly.

I opened Youtube after reading this, and this was one of the suggested videos for me

If you haven't watched videos, perhaps give it a whirl and it will help. I struggled with Witcher 3 just as I started and until I got a hang of things, after that it wasn't that bad (unless you stumble into a high level area).

I actualy found the normal difficult to easy and played this on a higher setting so don't give up, keep a heads up on what color the enemy names are as well, it might be obvious but try not to play this in a hack and slash way you need to take your time and pace your fights doge and learn to block I found dodging better personalty , also I found that sometime the auto sword draw messed around so make sure you are using the correct sword for the type of enemy otherwise you will be smacking the thing to kingdom come and do no damage. Don't give up this game is damn amazing.

I found that it is very important to know some enemies weaknesses when trying to fight them. For example, when fighting wraiths use Yrden (magic trap) it more than doubles a hit on a wraith inside the trap. For foglets (I really hate these bastards) Quen makes them a lot easier to fight. Know your enemies. It does get better at around lvl 10-12. I am only at lvl 20 now and there are still areas I need to run like a little b**ch in the Novigrad/Velen area...

Witcher 3 is not that difficult if you understand the mechanics.. I played it through once before I had the expansions . Now, when Im not busy with online games, I love this game.

For combat. Against big monsters use SPACEBAR roll to dodge them. Against humans and smaller monsters use the ALT dodge.

Also against humans use the Block and time it correctly to counter them. This is effective against shields.

Very important to read the bestiary. On easy this shouldn't be a problem but I play now on the hardest difficulty and if I dont go according to the info I won't beat the monsters.
Equip the correct Oils and drink the correct potions and use the signs according to the bestiary. If you dont know just use Quen sign.

Use stamina potion, heal potion, green potion that lets you do more damage or whatever it does and food. That way you constantly heal and regen stamina faster to cast Quen.

Also very important. Do the scavanger hunts for the best armors.. You will need decent armors. Best light/ medium or heavy armor. Once you have them according to youre level do the correct build for that armor. There is plenty of guides on skill/armor / weapon builds. some dps and some tanky... I personally love tanky builds because the fights take longer and i love the combat. I don't want to single slash every enemy.

Your low level so only bother with gear (Ursine gear) from level 20 up. The armor helps a lot.

As for Gameplay.. I agree this is the most confusing part of all RPG's Do you do the main quest or run around doing side quests..
The thing is your in a hurry so it actually makes sense to go full ahead with the main quest. However you need money so that could justify why you must do some sidequests /contracts ^^
You can do the main quest till you need levels then go around and do side quests till you are ready for the main quest.

For White Orchid I agree do everything. Win the Gwent game in the tavern also and buy the cards.Trust me later you want all the cards for Gwent and that guy starts the quests. I say do the main quest always according to your level or when your less than 5 levels above it to gain enough XP. Side quests is the golden gem of the game because its so good. I say grab all the notices on all boards as you travel. then explore all the markers on your way to do the main quests. (Barons questsline let you run over the whole map of Velen anyways)

Once your in Oxenfurt do all the quests there and get gwent cards. Then finish Velen quests till you must go to Novigrad. Before you continue with the main quest in skellige try to do most quests in Novigrad. Win all horse races, win all fist fights, Enjoy the deep quests in Novigrad. Especially Dikstra and that whole plot.

Go to skellige after Novigrad then do that whole viking playthrough.. Love skellige..

Do main quests and side quests and before you have a choice to go to Isle of the Mist with Ciri you must ensure you finished all the quests in Novigrad. The assassination of a certain person may fail if you don't do this( spoiler.. just google it but if you did the quests you should've completed it)

The best part is how you treat everyone and make allies depends who will help you in the battle against the wild hunt at the Witcher school.

Other than that just enjoy it and you have choices.. Do not worry about the choices. make it as you would've done it and see the consequences. There are multiple endings but honestly its fun to play with the choices you must make.

If you miss most side quests you can always come do contracts and quest after wards. Theres only a handful you maybe miss, which i missed so will do it this time.

    Just enjoy the game.
