Microsoft has announced the Xbox LIVE platform will be coming to SA, among several other developing nations.

The platform allows gamers to play online multi-player games, and download TV shows and music. It does, however, require that users have a broadband connection.

In a statement, Microsoft said that Xbox LIVE will be launch in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Russia and SA, but declined to give an exact date of the launch.

According to Microsoft, there are 23 million people across 26 countries who subscribe to Xbox LIVE.

In the US, a one year Gold subscription costs $49.99 and games retail for under $30 on the Xbox website. There is no word yet from Microsoft on the pricing for South Africans.
