If anything the lightsaber battles where to differnt to those, reserved, clashes in the original.
one thing you can say about mr lucas, is that he at least pressed for digital cameras/technology ( this now for ep 1 - 3 ) and before that he literally made the sfx work for the original sw. this is one thing we can be thankful, i would say that flicks like avatar can gief a little thanks here to mr lucas imho.

however one should mix your technologies correctly. too much digitization has it's pitfulls, but also it provide a great platform for your ideas. i do agree that we could have gotten some "kung fu" on the light saber as it was promising in ep 1, but then i would also think that it became more "choppy" to fit in with the originals.

personally i would have liked better force power representation like in golden age of the sith, rise of the sith and fall of the sith empire ( i think the last one is called ) over just some push, pull, choke and lighting.

in the end, the sw zealot in me says nay to the new sw and yay to the old ones as well as the mentioned comics from dark house. i would really prescribe them if you can, they are now available as omnibus.

It is set in a galaxcy far... far away creating half the set pieces without the level of CG use would have been a near imposible task. Imagine the courisant chance in Ep 2 or the final duel between Obi-Wan and Anikin on Mustafar with out it. Imagine half the alien races, such as the geonocians, midgets in suits rather than cg characters. Like the originals the new trilogy pushed visual effects into entire new avenues coz lucas had the ballz, and the money, to do it his way. If not for the likes of Ep 1 - 3 there might have been no Avatar (not that that would be a bad thing).

I meant the chap we all see when Luke removes Vadar's helmet. He stands next to Yoda and Obi-Wan at the end no? I just don't like it that they shoved Hayden in there because it doesn't make sense that he would still look like a twenty-something year old. Besides, it kind of takes away the shock and surprise of seeing Vadar's real face at that particular time.

I think they stuck to more traditional force powers to not alienate those who did not dive too deep into the comics and extended universe tales. Think about it, comapred to Starkiller (Force Unleashed) Luke is a giant wimp... but creating too powerful Jedi's in the new trilogy would cause continuality (SP) issues with the old since the old trilogy didn't have the tech to do what comics or novel or games could.

To be honest I did not enjoy avatar at all. I get what you are saying though. Maybe I am just being difficult.

I think the force ghost might reflect the Good Anikin and since he went south looking like that they dropped all Hayden in there. it could also have been done simply to give a sense of continuality especially to people seeing it for the first time.

This is all true, but being somebody who grew up with star Wars, it was a little disappointing. Just my 2 cents

Having grown up with Star Wars it hardly notices and didn't feel strongly eitherway about it. But to each his own. Im sure the DVD's have the theatrical release on there in which the other dude and not Hayden appears, if not then im sure the Blu-Rays will feature multiple versions.

I love every single star wars movie.. even the animated one, they all have their magic, only 2 things piss me off, Jar Jar Binks and they cut the scene "Luke, I am your father"
