If tonight goes like last night (8 consecutive losses) .. Omg I think I'll rage something terrible. I'm actually too scared to go play this game now because I know the hulk is gunna come out. It's really hard to keep your composure after 8 consecutive losses. After about game #5 I start becoming quiet and when the people say "HI! Gl hf )" I just don't respond because of epic bleakness.

Maybe I'll start a SCII rage thread later tonight.

    Canon rush...

All this can be avoided by simply scouting.

Learn what to look out for in opponent's base. If their buildings or lack thereof seem strange, then do a cheese scout in and around your base!

    Terran - bunker near canons
    Protoss - canon near canons
Zerg - spine crawler near canons

Unless you spot the pylon early, then just send 4 or 5 workers to kill it off.

It's also a good idea to proxy your opponent, if they are/tried to proxy/rush you.

    What does proxy mean?

Build/hide army-producing structures in/near his base, off the path that his units would usually travel to get to your base.

The cheesyness of the game depends a lot on which level you are busy playing at. Anything below plat can be very frustrating because you feel like the game is all about gimicky attacks (which at this level it is). To dig yourself out of this rut, and to get into a league level that promotes more interesting games, you really have to work on figuring out how to deal with cheesy plays.

My advice for any new player (and any experienced player for that matter) is to Google a guy called Day[9] and click the Blip.tv link. He has a vast knowledge of all things SC, great insight into the theory behind the game, and makes a ton of must see videos that give an in depth analysis of what you should be thinking/doing when playing SC and is going to help skyrocket you through your.

As for getting into a league that produces less frustrating losses? Good luck. I think people get frustrated with the game because the only other thing we can blame for our loss is ourselves. Once I started 1s again I also had an initial bout of frustration. After that I decided to look at the ladder as a tool, one to be used to learn the game against a variety of opponents, not to measure my level of skill. Since then I don't mind losing so much. When I lose, if my mistakes were not obvious to me during the game, I'll load up the rep, see where I went wrong, and queue up for the next game after that.
