Depression is not always something you can just "overcome", any attitude such as this or the thought that taking medication is "a substitute drug" or "cowardly" is not only ridiculous, its very damaging to helping anyone overcome this.
A lot of depression can be attributed to physical causes. Therapy and self-management certainly help and are vital to successful treatment, but SSRI's are often absolutely essential in treatment, and should NEVER be disregarded or looked down upon. You are NOT in 100% control of your feelings, as much as you may like to believe thats true.
