I think I've landed up alternative between blue and green, over the years, through chance. I tend to upgrade between 18-24 months apart. Get any 2.6GHz or faster cpu, pair it with a midrange gpu, and now someone tell me, what you can't play. Mostly likely anything will run well on medium. And if you want it to look nicer, get a high end gpu. No one is going to run a server and play Crysis 2 at the same time. 4GHz quad-cored HT CPU is a waste of cash, better spent on biltong.
That's exactly the thing. Having a decent CPU is important, but at this point in time, gamers need good GPUs to be able to get the best out of their games. With no particular reference to AMD or Intel, a good CPU coupled with a top-range GPU is good enough at this stage and saving money by not buying unnecessary hardware is what I'm going for.
