for me its was in 2000 i got my AMD thunderbird, upgraded in 2004/5 to AMD Athlon 3200+ 939, there after i changed to socket AM2+ and went for AMD triple core 8650 CPU, i would have kept that until end of this year but my friend wanted my system so i sold it to him last year i think and i did i full upgrade to my current system. I could have kept my old system and just bolted on the new processor but i got my money that tempted my upgrade... Fair enough i changed boards three times since 2000 but that is fairly little considering i didn't need to on my last upgrade.
I did look at the i7 now recently and i couldn't justify spending that much on the specs i choose for that machine, baring in mind i would have been flat broke for a while had a bought it. Yes the i7 is faster in alot of respects but i don't need that speed i don't need what i have now either but it was cheap when i did it and i liked what i bought. I am happy... guess that is all that matters in the end really
