Seriously though. If I get caught having sex with a wild boar I don't expect my parents to blame the Japanese or games or Maddox. That'd be getting off easy. I'd expect them to make me responsible. But this...well, that's a pleasant excuse, right?

just an update for all I'm on the mavav website contacting the people responsible for blaming us gamers and our violent games for their craziness and speaking on behalf of us as a community.... coz theres no stopping us and we're not the crazy ones in the world

Well folks i posted my comment onto that mavav.org and made us all heard as i spoke on behalf of all of my fellow gamers.... just hoping i dont get sued for it though but i didnt say anything derogatory and said that i dont mean to offend anyone... here is what i said.

I must say that as a general gamer myself I am highly offended by what everyone is saying about us and our games. Firstly how can you generalize and say that violent games affect all of us, I have been playing games since i was a kid and I am now 23, I do not see how gaming has affected me as well as my fellow gamers here in South Africa as well as the rest of the world. You cannot tell me that if you play games you are going to end up either suicidal or a complete murdurous psychopath.

Yes you see people walking around in public killing innocent bystanders, but not pointing fingers at the games we play. Maybe you should look into the background of the person responsible for causing the incident/s and see what his/her life at home was like. I noticed in a news article which pointed out clearly that the kid in Germany who shot up a school in his area and if I am not mistaken it was 2 teachers and a few pupils, he then proceeded to walk into the street and kill an innocent couple.

I made sure I read the article thoroughly and noticed a few things.

The boy was given a rifle by his father as a gift as it was his grandfather's from WWII and still in a working condition. He also joined his father at a shooting range therefore increasing his skill as a rifleman. The media pointed fingers at a commonly played game known as counter Strike where you use such weapons as Sniper rifles, Mp5's and other assualt rifles.

This boy also received this game as a gift, which if I stand corrected it was from his parents.

I am making my point loud and clear, We the gaming community do not appreciate having fingers pointed at us and told that it is us and our violent games we play are entirely to blame for the violence caused in your neighbourhoods, etc...

As for speed text, it does not change the way we act or speak. We are simply cutting down the amount of words used in a single sentence, so therefore saying that your "psychiatrists" clearly do not know what they are talking about when it comes to saying that our speech is effected in the long run from speed text. Maybe they should try and get involved in a gaming community as well as the parents that attack us verbally and try to make our lives hell. Those parents should actually look at our communities and see exactly what is said in them, as we have parents that have joined since we have gone live in february and they enjoy it as much as us (The youth) enjoy it. They even enjoy playing games with us online on the odd occasion, and limit their kids to the hours spent on games. As for age restrictions the parents do not allow their children to play violent games if there is an age restriction on them.

That is something we classify as good parenting, by keeping boundries within not only our households but our communities as well. Good parenting is also taking control of your children and teaching them mutual respect, as well as teaching them discipline.

I hope this reaches out to the parents, teachers and all those who wish to blame and falsely accuse us of such events that have occurred over the past couple months.
