One could try and justify it by saying that any other product/car/whatnot allows you to test it and if you don't like it you don't buy it. Sure games have demo's - but not all.

So in a jaded reconciliation attempt, if you pirate a game and you found the game to be very good - go out and buy it to support those devs!

A borderline case I have refers to cross-platform piracy. I have about 80 Xbox games including Fable 1&2, KOTOR1&2, NFS and so on and so forth...

Now since I have the original xbox disk, I don't see it as a problem to play a pirate copy on my pc. It would be the same as paying for a music CD and then putting those same songs on your mp3 player. - Please tell me if I'm wrong.
I certainly agree. There are some pirated CDs that friends have given me or that I find impossible to get here, so I download the torrent and if I enjoy it, I go out and buy the original. If I don't enjoy it, well I will just delete it.

I don't think pirating is fair, especially when private individuals make a profit for cloning a game. Now you're supporting a criminal activity and giving absolutely no credit to the developers.

Ye don't get me wrong - pirating for personal use is bad enough, but if I see someone trying to sell copied cds/dvd's I want to punch them in the face.

I Dont condone Piracy but we have to face the fact that some games are not released here and when it comes to most older games they are quite hard to find in good nick ! if I cant find a game online or in a store then I will have to download it to get it. Yes there is steam but steam does not have every game that a person looks for. An example would be NFS 1 I have every single nfs game (Legal versions) except NFS 1 I looked everywhere for a decent copy and couldnt find one, in the end I have no choice but to download it !

Game in point would be COD4 ......... I finally caved and tried a pirated version, fell in love with it, trashed the copy on my way to go buy the original ....... and bam, nowhere has stock. Same goes for my music .... I'll 'try' before I buy because R200 and above for a cd that might be crappy is a no no for me.

I view pirating games the same as music, and it would seem that a lot of us here feel the same. Try it out, if you like it and spend time on it, then go and buy the original so that you then have it forever. Stored away so that you may return to it at any stage to relive it. That's why I also miss the old boxes that games used to come in. You used to feel like you were really acquiring something, you'd have that nice meaty manual to pour through and you could even display the boxes nicely if you were so inclined. I don't really enjoy the new DVD cases that one gets games in now, and the shoddy little manuals if any, sometimes the manual is just a PDF on the disk

Who remembers how great Blizzard's old game manuals and boxes were? I saw the old Diablo 2 box and manual the other day and it made me all giddy. These days you feel like you're getting something less substantial for more money, which sucks.

I honestly think that maybe game dev's should make demos a little bit longer to draw people into their games more, and then when the user is more hooked you hit them with that dreaded "Purchase Full Version" screen.

I don't know, this industry has changed a lot over the years, and the changes keep coming quicker and quicker. DVDs for games are almost obsolete, at least in countries that have decent internet.

Call me old-fashioned, but I like to have a collection of something, something physical, something that I can look at and even take pride in (like my comic collection )

Piracy is definitely a huge problem, but sometimes useful to the discerning consumer. I wish I had pirated Sacred 2, cause then after playing it for an hour I would have realised that it wasn't for me and could have deleted it. Instead I forked out the cash for it at Rage because I felt like buying something and Sacred 2 seemed to be getting lots of hype. Money wasted, money that could of been spent on a great game, like COD4 which I really want a original copy of.

    Okay. Shut up Jake

You can import it. There are quite a few UK and US based gaming retailers who will ship to SA. I couldn't find Drakensang locally so I imported it. Sure it might cost more( talking pc games here console games are cheaper when importing since the local distributors and retailers are ripping us off) than getting the game locally but if you really want the game then you can get it , you don't have to pirate it.

Jake you have some valid points there mate!

It erks me to open a box and find a leaflet inside instead of a proper COLOUR manual.

I take immense pride in my game collection on my dvd shelf in my room... most are xbox1 / movie dvds / but I have my fair share of original games. Mainly just because I'm at an age where I can afford the odd game now and then.
