Yeah I remember the game being horribly buggy when it just came out, and it was a recource HOG! After official and unofficial patch, as you mentioned, was a bit better but not really where it should have been.

But seeing that I am back into the SP scene lately (busy with Dragon age, Mirrors edge and Dead Space) I will maybe give this another go.

I loved it. To be this was a cult classic. It did have its flaws. At a point you needed a patch or else it would keep on crashing but it was so freaking fun. The trick is not to us guns. I used malee weapons. The flamethrower was awesome and the kombat shotgun though.

i don't think you get a more broken up game than TOEE or Call of cthulhu. i tried CoC up to where you escape from the fishermen's town just to be brought back, then i gave up for now.

i would love a decent vampire sp, mp and mmo.

i would strongly suggest you replay CoC in XP rather than to sit with x64 win7 issues....
