Ok guys, I am now confirming an exhibition.
Are there any exhibitors you would be interested in seeing there?
Over and above the usual suspects?
I read that on their site yes, but I think you'd need to inform them of just exactly how much power you'll be using.
My design work pretty much deals exclusively with 3ph systems. If you don't get the distribution side sorted 1st time, you're in for interesting times.
May I ask why exactly 3500? and not 1000 like the norm? Will you have enough staff to crowd-control 3500 people? Also...how long will it take for 3500 people to set up etc. with all their equipment?
The big idea is glued together by the finer details.
I like your questions, shows interest![]()
1. I have spoken to the Building manager at Sandton convention centre, we have worked on an average of 750Watts per Gamer, this leaves room for bigger and smaller power users. He assures me power will not be a problem. They have additional "capacity" as he put it if necessary.
2. I have a fairly decent staff compliment, I will be assinging marshals to every 100 people. 1 - 100 is suffiecent in my eye's. The network will be running from the wednesday already in a test capacity of the weekend of the event. EVERY single cable will be tested and retested. Also we will be handing out pamphlets with screen shots of exactly how to configure your network. This will hopefully dial down the number of problems.
3. 3500 seems like a nice round number, 2ndly I do not want to do the norm. I want to host the biggest lan in the southern hemisphere, which this will essentially be. I want to give gaming a kick in the pants so to speak in ZA.
Keep em coming voicy, I like you! (*end*Borat voice)
1. Well, one thing that is always annoying at rAge is the single entry point. Simply takes too long. If you have multiple entrances, it would be great.
2. Sleeping arrangements?
3. Security? Will equipment be allowed to leave at any time and how will this be monitored?
4. Leeching? What will the attitude be towards this? Look at rAge these days, it is becoming a leech fest and annoying to those who actually want to game. And over and above that, 98% of the crap being shared/leeched are movies/games/series etc. Needles to say, this could bring the LAN into disrepute with authorities.
5. Age restrictions? Yes little kids can be annoying, but that's not what I mean. How are you going to convince Mrs Jones that little Billy will be safe from the big Maplassie bully type?![]()
6. What kind of drinks/food will be sold and will you be allowed to bring your own chow? Alcohol? Smoking will obviously only be allowed outside. Please have decent food options for the love of all that is good and pure.
7. I say security again, cause 3500 PC's (many top end) is a tempting reward for a enterprising criminal.
1. With regards to this, the single entrance is for security reasons. But we will be admitting from 8am so it should give ample time to get in and setup.
2. TBA, Need to confirm the sandton convention centre's policy on this.
3. We will be using a similar security protocol to rage, but will be slightly tighter I am afraid. This also will be confirmed when our website goes up. But I say again will be slightly tighter.
4. Leeching is inevitable, we will how ever be using managed switches which will have their QOS with priority given to gaming protocols. We will also host a DC++ server which will be the ONLY form of "Leeching" allowed, this will allow us to properly "shape" traffic.
5. We are still thinking about this, as young children are hard to manage...
6. We are discussing with Sandton Convention centre, but, we will be supplying all food. There will be stalls, with all kinds of food, good food! We will cater for all tastes, and will be relatively affordable
7. This is not even a problem.
Just a thought, but reconsider having more than one entrance. It is extremely tiresome and not fun standing in a q at rAge for an hour os so just to get in and that's with 100 odd gamers. 3500 going to take a HELL of a lot longer.
Will you be making any arrangements to host official competitions? Qualifiers for int comps?
Will it be a PC only LAN or will you look at possibility of hosting console LAN? If it's even possible?
Will look at the events that will be happening around the time of the lan.
We will have a compliment of at least 8 Xbox's/PS 3's/ Wii's with LCD TV's for people to play on.
There will be a HUGE SC2 comp at the event I am looking to have all the big names there. Also Big comps like COD4, HON, BFB2, Quake 3.
