Nope not possible, they could come and co-op in like 4 player games but nothing like playing on xbox live.

So they could come hook up their consoles to like a 8 port switch and co-op. but not play like Call of duty or something.

Will the games not be a little "out-dated" by then? I take it that this is not set in stone..
Secondly, and critically analysing your use of the word "SC2"... Will there be a working internet connection? If so, how extensive will it be used? (will it be limited to just logins to various games, or will gamers be able to play online so to speak)

How are you going about making sure its not a replicated rAge? Big lan, comps, exhibitions is really similar to rAge. It seems you are going for something different? Is the 3.5k people the difference?

Sticking with rAge, you are planning this for a years time from now, which is VERY close to rAge. How sure are you that you can get SA gamers to go to just yours and not rAge? (sorry, i am not nay-saying its an honest question). And i say this because i doubt people will travel cross country twice in a short span of time.

Are the sponsors of the event the usual suspects?

Why are you doing this? I doubt its profit... If its something along the lines of getting SA Gaming on the map, I am sure it get lots of support. A mission statement would be nice.

Ticket sales, Computicket? Private? etc (probably not set yet, but something to think about).

    1. In some cases yes, But, lets look at the current state of things as far as gaming comps go. Dota has been out for what 6 years? Cod 4 has been out for about the same. Being out-dated will not be a problem. There is a reason for the games being chosen, they work and the gamers enjoy them. COD4 is by far the best COD for a comp. SC2 will be what a year old? HON, is just starting to become comp worthy, BFBC2, this is a bit iffy I admit, but we could swap this for the new Medal of Honor.
As far as the "online" gaming goes, this will be for comps only. If you want to sit at a lan and play online the whole time you are wasting your money

    2. There will be a number of defining factors, the main one obviously being giving people the oppurtunity to be part of a Guiness world record. I have already mailed them and they are happy to attend and give us a spot in their book I can't go to much into the other "factors" as I dont want to show my hand to soon. Competetion being what it is and all.

    3. You have to understand, I do not want to take anything away from Rage, they have done a great deal for gamers in SA. All I want to do is help enrich gaming, more so competitive gaming in SA. I will be hosting some very big comps, I might even organise sponsorships for winning teams, etc. I am just trying to do my part for what could be an amazing gaming scene. So to answer your question, Rage sells out in 1 day, there are hundreds and thousands of gamers that miss out, I want to give as many people a chance to participate in such an event.

    4. As far as sponsors go, I cannot divulge my sponsors just yet, but what I can tell you is there are a lot of the same names, but a couple very interesting and new ones

    5. Haha profit, I wish there would be enough to make this about money, I have been lanning for easily 8 or 9 years. I just want to do my bit

    6. I have already secured Computicket for sales.

Just out of interest and peace of mind for yourself, next time you chat to the Sandont CC guys, would you mind finding out what their available 3-phase power capacity is to you?

I'd like to run some numbers to see if you're covered.

Keep this in mind...it's pretty standard practice for a convention centre to have backup power...however as with most installations, the backup gennies do not cover the entire facility and your boards are divided up into normal / Standby & UPS supplies.

    So you have 2 scenarios:

    1) Mains power fails on that day. Result: Only essential services boards have power. Depending on their layout, 40% of your power might be gone. Even if by some chance the entire facility is supported, you now face running time VS Diesel costs. Those big gennies will drink diesel faster than you'll know what to do with yourself.

    2) The facility's power is insufficient. Result: Circuits trip from overloading. No way around this but to reduce load after balancing phases. To avoid mass phase failures, you'll have to sub-divide clusters of people to localize faults.

I really like what you're doing, but as you can see my interests lie in the technical side of it.

My guy who is in charge of venue is meeting with them today and will be confirming everything from sleeping arrangements to the full run down on the power

You can rest easy knowing I am doing everything in my power to make sure there will be 0 problems

hehe I'm sure you are! It's an awesome initiative though.

As I said, you're looking at a modest amount of 5250A per phase for the computers alone - this excludes lighting, switching equipment, food stalls, etc.

I don't see the use for a poll on this one.

Those who aren't interested won't bother to follow this thread, so the poll should have a near 100% approval rate since the only people bothering to vote are those who are interested.

Now if you had a poll asking something like which they'd prefer between "Biggest LAN" or "Longest Running 1000man LAN" for a Guinness record, that would be something else entirely.

There must be another way to achieve indication-of-interest. Maybe ask Tincan to help you on that front. E.g. this thread has had 380 views already (albeit not all of them unique ID's I'm sure).

The problem with the longest running lan would be work for most people, school for others, hygiene, etc.

I am content with the most people

Will PM the tincan and see what he recommends.

Thanks voicy, you will get VIP ticket at standard pricing Remind me closer to the time.

    Oo oo oo oo oo!

Hygiene. Big deal in my opinion. That has always been one of my biggest turn-offs at rAge. After a day or so, 1000+ geeks et al really do start to give off a unique scent. I have no real easy solution to this, but maybe something like portable showers? Wait, let me rephrase that, compulsory showers!
