Guide to surviving the rAge NAG LAN

So if I bring a SABS approved power cord I will not be let into the dome without going out and buying this "Special 3 flat earth pin plug" ?

Those red 3 prongs are slowly becoming the norm, for places like the dome its to supply "clean" power to your pc's, its basically to prevent your pc konking out incase there is a power outage.
 
Yep, that's pretty much correct Crzwaco.

The flat earth pin plug socket is used to designate separate, clean power grids. The Dome obviously can't afford to have the whole expo shut down when someone's dodgy 240W PSU blows up.

One can usually find these sorts of plugs at a local hardware store, and then it's a simple matter of rewiring your cables.

James I would love to see what happens if someone wires that wires wrongly when its most of the times clearly stated where L N E goes.
 
Those red power plugs have been used at rAge since I started going in 2004 I think. Man, I'm soooo glad I managed to get tickets. This is going to be my 6th rAge in a row, but the first one that I won't be playing any comps. Should be much more relaxed. :cool:

Those are known as dedicated plugs. The only difference between a dedicated supply and a normal supply is that the circuits aren't on earth leakage. So, if someone plugs in a vacuum cleaner / hairdryer etc. with faulty insulation, it doesn't trip the dedicated supply. It'll take a direct phase fault or a load of >16A to trip the circuit.

This lan is over rated. Each time I went people were playing single player games or leeching or watching anime or movies.

This is probably true of all LANs so it's unfair to say that rAge is overrated. The event is truly what you make of it. Take a walk among fellow gamers, see what they are playing, and find out how you can hop into their games.

People pay to be there, so if they want to leech whilst watching anime, it's their choice. They could also be taking a break from the rigors of constant gaming. I've personally never had much trouble finding players for popular titles.

In this day and age of online only multiplayer and verification, it's going to suck that StarCraft II, Bad Company 2, Heroes of Newerth, and other such titles won't get played ;_;
 
Also no comps this year. That's what kept me busy all the time each year. Last year we must have played around 10 clan matches. Wonder what I'm going to do with myself this year. :eek:
