Civilization V review (MyGaming)

apparently civ 5 is not lekker 10-4 and they changed some of the things that made civ great coming from 4 like town management being over simplified.

I hate this game. Anyone planning on buying it should wait until more patches are released. 70 cities crash, puppet production bug, extreme load times, save game corruptions, and the never ending peace treaty bug have meant that I haven't completed one game yet. Plus the AI is completely retarded, liberate a state - they hate you, they start dominating you militarily - they offer a peace treaty that includes most of their cities, naval forces are also virtually non-existent meaning they never go to the 'new' world or anywhere else other then their starting continent. Diplomacy is dumbed down to a point of 'I like you' or 'I dislike you'. Meh. Rather stick to Civ 4 and its expansions for the time being.

Being a fan since Civ 1 back in the dark ages, 5 can feel like a backstep again in terms of game dynamics: Where's the civics? Where's the religious aspect? It seems to have been simplified in some kind of AI experiment. The. New combat is cool and all, and so are the new tiles, but it feels like something is missing, or like they wanted to add more but ran out of time.

The bugs in game are strange at best: there is vast list of them, some quite amusing - apparently attack helicopters can't fly over ocean tiles but can capture cities... Some more primal ones like the magellan achievement that can't be triggered because it is is disabled in the config files of the game.

Upside is it is very shiney... downside is that the venerable 8800GS can't cope in DX 11 mode, but can chug along in DX 9 mode just fine. (/me weeps at age of his pc)

So far it seems like I'm being negative, heh. I like the game, it just needs a bit of love before I'll pick it up again. I could always play civ 4 for that old civil fix.

Is anyone playing this game in SA, I want to buy it, but there is no point if I cant play multi player.

How do you find people to play against, I take it that its not like Starcraft 2's league system?

It's got its pro's and con's...

Pro's: Im really liking the 1 unit per tile thing for combat so you can't just stack a bijillion units and rape everything.. also its pretty :D

Cons: AI difficulty is lame.. starting with more units and ridiculous research rates for compensation just isn't working for me - multiplayer options aren't really that appealing either

I actually like Civ V. Granted it isn't as good as Beyond the Sword but I think its lekker :)

I bought Civ V at the same time as SC2. Bad move! It's still in its box all nicely wrapped away.

I have lost years of my life playing 3 and 4 with Beyond the Sword being best of the 2.

I was genuinely looking forward to 5, but what I saw never got me sparked enough to walk away from SC2 to give this a go.

:(

It just seems cool, because there are lots of things in the technology tree, and tactics are more important compared to SC (where he who clicks fastest wins)

Now dont get me wrong, I dig SC, but rushes and cheese cause me to rage quit, but those are all part of the game I guess.
